January 13th, 2020, Ugandan Theatre Company, Silent Voices Uganda, known for its aesthetically bold and quality theatre productions has released the call for aspiring African directors for their 2020 Kampala-based African Theatre Directors Apprenticeship.

The program is in its fifth year and for the third year will be open to artists from the rest of the continent. The two-month intensive program is a “hybrid of college-like training and learning on the job training approaches with more focus on learning on the job approaches” that gives aspiring and new Theatre directors an opportunity to collaborate with other artists and direct scenes from the Company’s production of the year.

Under the artistic director, Adong Judith, recent apprentices have worked on Just Me, You and the Silence (2017), A Fest of 10-Minute Plays (2018) and Niqabi Ninja (2019). This year, they will be producing their hugely-anticipated Subira: The Musical.

This year’s program will run from June 1st to August 9th. Applications is open to all African based, beginning and aspiring directors. In the past, the program was not open to enrolled students. However, this year, the call added a note for such students to apply for directing internships for consideration.

For more information about eligibility and application requirements, visit the Silent Voices Uganda website.  Deadline is 13th March 2020.
