Threads of Trust, an original play by writer and director Martin Abuya, will premiere at the Kenya National Theatre on February 8th and 9th, 2025. This witty and heartfelt production promises a compelling exploration of love, trust, and the delightful chaos of relationships.
The play follows Adam and Maya, a couple on the verge of marriage whose lives are tested by mysterious text messages. Misunderstandings escalate, fueled by the well-meaning but chaotic interventions of friends and family. Through clever dialogue and vibrant characters, the story masterfully balances humour and heartfelt reflections on trust and forgiveness.
Audiences will be drawn into the action with the play’s minimalist yet innovative split-stage design, which showcases simultaneous events in two households. This unique approach immerses viewers in the parallel experiences of Adam, Maya, and their loved ones, providing a rich narrative perspective.

Behind this production is Igiza Arts Productions, a Juja-based theatre company founded in February 2017. The company has grown into a dynamic organization recently scoring numerous nominations at the Kenya Theatre Awards including best producer for Wreiner Mandu, best original script for Martin Mbuya’s Flight 1963, best performance by a female actor in a leading role (Play), and best performance by a female actor in a supporting role (Play) for Ednah Kariuki in An Ideal Husband and Severed Justice respectively, and more.
Martin Abuya describes Threads of Trust as “a celebration of the messy, beautiful intricacies of love and human connection. It’s a chance to laugh, reflect, and perhaps see a bit of ourselves in the characters on stage.”
